Linda de Haan & Stern Nijland
This simple story tells the tale of newlyweds King Lee and King Bertie on their journey into the noisy jungle. The kings are greeted by wild animal families, parents and babies, but the royal travelers suspect that something more significant awaits them in the trees -- a little girl stowaway who needs parents to love her! King & King adopt her and begin their journey to family in earnest.
Illustrated in a happy riot of deep bold colors in a free-form collage, King & King doesn't preach or sermonize, it simply "is" a happy story that two dads/two moms or families with one of each can share with their children.
Roberta's Note: The only thing I might have liked better was to offer a quick explanation of why the child hid herself in the Kings' suitcase. When reading to their child, parents might want to offer their own explanation.
