A Quilt of Wishes - China Adoption Story

A Quilt of Wishes - China Adoption Story

"I wish you always: Happiness to fill your heart, Wisdom to fill your mind, And confidence in faith to fill your spirit. May you live your life being your True, authentic self."
A story about a sweet little baby in China who is waiting for her adoptive parents to come and bring her home. Her mother worries about her daughter a world away, afraid she could be cold and alone, so this waiting mother decides to make a quilt to be sent ahead while everyone waits for the adoption papers to be completed. The quilt, however, takes on a new meaning when it arrives at the orphanage in China. No longer a simple quilt for warmth and comfort, it now represents a uniquely beautiful and meaning melding of heritage and love. Roberta's Note: Warmly written and illustrated, this story about the "!00 Good Wishes Tradition" has an intimate, whispery quality that will bring comfort to waiting moms now and bed-time reading joy to their children later. More About the 100 Good Wishes Tradition There is a tradition in the northern part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei, or 100 Good Wishes Quilt. When a child is born, friends and family are invited to contribute a scrap of old clothing along with a special wish which is to made made into a quilt by the child's mother. It is said that the luck and energy of the people who wore these clothes surrounds the child when she is wrapped in the quilt. The quilt contains the luck, energy, and good wishes from all the families and friends who contributed a piece of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation. - 28 pages - softcover - ages 3-6
