Korean Children's Favorite Stories

Korean Children's Favorite Stories

This is a beautifully illustrated and engagingly told collection of 13 traditional Korean folktales. Written with wit and pathos, these stories tell of a fantastic wonderland where ants converse, trees father babies, and a single little brown toad saves an entire village -- and more! Originally published in 1955 as The Story Bag, this new edition is a welcome addition to my own children's growing library of Korean myths, legends, and folktales. Roberta's Note: You may want to take a pass on "The Great Flood" for younger children as the storyline includes two daughters and uses the terms "own daughter" and "real child" as well as an adopted daughter. If your child is a bit older, you can use this story as a "teachable moment" in discussions of Korean culture and its views on the meaning of adoption.
